Thomas E. Dalton, 84, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. Thomas was born January 12, 1927 in Hammond, IN and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 5 years, moving from Hammond, IN. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He had worked as a salesman for Eckrich Meats and had also worked for Inland Steel in the trucking department retiring 2001. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hammond, IN, Knights of Columbus, the Optimist Club, Hammond, IN, and AMVETS Post#22, Vermilion. Thomas had enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was also an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching football. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan (nee Schuman) Dalton; sons, Dr. Chris (Wendy) Dalton of Huron, Kevin (Polly) Dalton of Valparaiso, IN, and Tom (Debbie) Dalton of Lansing, MI; daughter, Dr. Laura (Gary) Ecker of Perth, Australia; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jerome and Sarah (nee McLaughlin) Dalton, sisters, Mary Ellen Malo, and Sally Delache; and brothers, John and Jerry Dalton. Friends may call Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 from 1:00 pm until the time of a Veterans Service at 3:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South Street Vermilion, OH. The Vermilion Veterans Council will be conducting the military honors.
