Thomas (Tom) W. Dzoba Sr., 83, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in the home of his daughter, Catherine Ross, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alice Dzoba (nee Botinovchan) in August 2014. Tom was born October 15, 1931 in Aliquippa, PA, to the late William and Mary (nee Popson) Dzoba. Tom attended Aliquippa High School in PA and the Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an operating engineer with the 323 Engineers in Korea. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as a Security Sergeant with Fisher Guide, a division of General Motors until his retirement in 1988. He lived in Florida with his late wife, Alice, from 1991 until 2008, when they moved back to Ohio. Tom loved watching sunsets on the Florida beach with his wife Alice, whom he missed dearly. He also enjoyed working on cars, playing golf and working word search puzzles. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Vermilion. Tom was a very loving father, devoted husband, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed. Tom is survived by his children, Mary McGhee of Vermilion, Louise (Mark) Sacharski of Amherst, Thomas (Doreen) Dzoba Jr. of Orlando, Florida, Catherine Ross of Vermilion and Donna Nowlin of Vermilion; grandchildren, Jennifer Alferio, Adam Sacharski, David Ross, Benjamin Nowlin, John Sacharski, Christopher McGhee, Amanda DeBerry , Brittany Dzoba, Thomas Sacharski and Melaney Dzoba; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Aiden, Hannah, Aeris, Alison and Blayne; and a sister, Mary Ann Matijasic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, William and Mary Dzoba; and a brother William P. Dzoba in 1991. A Special Thank You to STEIN HOSPICE of Sandusky for their loving care and support. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from Noon - 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St, Vermilion. A Memorial Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. Father Ron Brickner will officiate. Inurnment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain immediately following where Lorain V.F.W. Post # 451 and American Legion Post #30 Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
