Thomas Patrick Ryan , 78, of Vermilion, died Sunday, September 4, 2016. Tom was born March 16, 1938 in Lorain and had been a Vermilion resident since 1967 moving from Lorain. He spent his winters in Port Charlotte, FL. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an artillery Staff Sergeant. He was 1961 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Tom worked for Lorain National Bank for 40 years. He was Executive Vice President and secretary of the Board of Directors. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Port Charlotte, FL, where he was Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was a member of Lorain County C.I.C. Loan Committee. He was a member of AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion, and Knights of Columbus Council 11483. He served on the board of trustees of the Lorain Palace Theater, and was treasurer and trustee of the Lakeland Health Care Corporation. He was a member of Oberlin Golf Club and Riverwood Golf Club, Port Charlotte, FL, and a past member of Elyria Country Club. He was founder and treasurer of the Notre Dame Club of Lorain County. He had been Crystal Beach Park Assistant Manager. He was President of Lorain County Regional Planning Commission. Tom was a member of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, Lorain Rotary Club, Vermilion YMCA, and Lorain Community Music Theater. He was chairman of the Lorain County Economic Development Committee and the Community Hospital Foundation, He was a trustee of the Lorain YMCA, Humility of Mary Hospice Corp, Lorain Community Hospital Ambulance, Inc., Lorain County Cupboard, and Lorain Catholic School. He was chairman of St. Mary Church Finance Committee, Chairman of Vermilion School Levy Campaign from 1983-1985 and was named "Young Man of the Year" in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Carole Ryan (nee Czech) of Vermilion; son, Thomas J. (Michele) Ryan of Strongsville; daughters, Colleen (John) Dillon of Avon and Cathleen (Chris) Phillips of Amherst; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelly, Nora, Claire Dillon and Emily, Sara and Andrew Phillips; cousins, Marlene Feldkamp, Sandra Mueller and Rowena Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eleanor (nee Blanchat) Ryan. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverends Ron Brickner and Philip Feltman will co-officiate. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089 or St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte, FL 33941.
