Velma C. Gordon (née Barker), 85, of Vermilion, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Mercy New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.
Born on June 14, 1939, in Culver, Kentucky, Velma grew up in Sandy Hook, Ky and made Vermilion her home for the past 30 years after relocating from Columbus.
She retired in 1994 after 28 dedicated years on the assembly line at General Motors. Velma was a proud member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Vermilion, where she found joy and community through Bible study and other church activities. She was also a member of VFW Post #7005 in West Jefferson.
Velma loved walking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strong spirit, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
She is survived by her children, Belinda Maskiewicz of Clearwater, FL; Anthony Weis of Nineveh, IN; Donnie (Lynn) Faulkner of Lima; Charla (Klark) Ostheimer of Berlin Heights; and Christopher Gordon of Marion, CO; as well as 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Mary Faye (née Henson) Barker; her grandson, David Faulkner; her brother, Curtis Barker; and her sister, Zelma Rice.
The family will receive friends on Monday April 21, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend Cliff Morris will officiate. Interment will follow at Cable Cemetery in Florence Township.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
