Velma Ruth Shortt

Velma Ruth Shortt (nee Jones), 79, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Velma was born February 11, 1935 in Kingsport, TN, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past two years moving from Cleveland. She had been a member of the Pathway Baptist Church, Cleveland and enjoyed reading the bible, crossword puzzles, playing the guitar, and playing video games. She is survived by her son, Michael Ray (Mirtha) Shortt of Reo Rico, AZ; daughters, Sandy Ostasik of Vermilion; Debbie (Brian) Brooks of Wakeman, Patty Shortt of Oberlin, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Baxter and Maude (nee Sands) Jones; daughter, Diane Shortt, and great granddaughter, Jennifer Steinbrink. Private family services will be held.
