Verna Lucille Parks

November 22, 1935 — January 7, 2018

Verna Lucille Parks (nee Rudd), 82, of Vermilion, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 7th, 2018, after a brief stay at University Hospital Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland. Verna was born November 22, 1935 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Dorsey S. and Bertha Marie (nee Risen) Rudd. She graduated from Portsmouth East High School in 1953. She has been a Vermilion resident for the past 12 years. Previously, she resided with her late husband, Austin Parks, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She also resided in Avon and Lorain. Verna retired from Kmart as a Regional Manager after 29 years of service. Verna's employment at Kmart gave her the opportunity to form many friendships, including to her dear and lifelong friend, Colleen Buczynsky. Verna will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a spirited, funny, and strong-willed woman with a love of travel, debate, and lobster. She enjoyed many trips with family and friends throughout her life, leaving a trail of happy and humorous memories for all who were lucky enough to journey with her in this life. Verna was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Vermilion. She enjoyed shopping, attending church, and socializing with her friends, especially her best friend Barb Baldwin and Barb's sisters, Dottie, Shirley, and Jenny. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, and taking care of her great grandson, Evan, to whom she shared a special and unique bond. She was thrilled to be able to meet her great-granddaughter, Olivia, and was tickled to see all the hair on the head of her newest great-granddaughter, Zoe. Verna is survived by her loving sons, Charles McClintic of Phoenix, AZ and Terry (Michele nee Doyle) McClintic of Wakeman; grandson, Collin McClintic; granddaughters, Michelle (Robert) Cooperider and Megan (Greg) Cosentino; great-grandchildren, Evan, Olivia, and Zoe; sister, Dorothy Duncan; brothers, George (Mary Ann) Rudd and Dorsey (Joyce) Rudd; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Hazel Mathis and her brother, Paul Rudd. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the funeral home. Reverend Russ Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
