Victor Joseph Hug, 98, of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion under the care of Stein Hospice. Victor was born March 4, 1913 in Lorain and had been a life long area resident. His heart and happiest times were in Vermilion. Victor graduated from Lorain High School, Ohio University and received his Masters Degree from the Ohio State University. He enjoyed traveling, antiques, Breweriana (beer memorabilia), socializing with people and caring for his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He taught English and Civics at Hawthorne Junior High School in the 1940's. He then owned Frederick's Bicycle Shop, Lorain. He worked for Nelson Stud/ TRW as a traffic manager retiring in 1978, and he helped his son, Tom Hug, create "Huggy's" coffee, antique and framing shop in Vermilion. He is survived by his daughter Barbara J. Wargo; of Amherst, and sons, Bob (Janet) Hug of Lorain, and Tom (Jackie Freeman) Hug of Vermilion, several nieces and nephews, step grandson, step great grandson, and his grand dog, Dudley. He was preceded in death by wife, Leona Ruth Hug (nee Routson) in 1961, parents Dr. E.V. and Grace (nee Hawkins) Hug, sister, Grace S Arlein, in 1989 and a special son, Joseph S. Rich in 2010. His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion OH, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Prayers will be said in the funeral home on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
