Virginia Schmidt (née Rooy), 90, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 2, 2024, after a lengthy illness.
Born on June 19, 1933, in Richfield, OH, Virginia had been a cherished resident of Vermilion for 72 years, having moved from Richfield.
Together with her husband Gerald, Virginia owned and operated Hawkins Flower Shop in Vermilion for many years. She also lent her talents to a Flower Shop in Sandusky.
A devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene in Vermilion for 61 years, Virginia found joy in spending time in the outdoors bird watching, flower and plant gardening with her husband, and cherishing moments with her family.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Julie (Tom Nielsen) Schmidt-Lee of Vermilion, her son David Schmidt of Vermilion, her grandchildren Jolene, Gretchen, and Rick, and her sister Annie Taylor of Richfield, OH.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Gerald Schmidt, on January 13, 2024, her parents William and Geneva (née Cook) Rooy, and her sister Lucile Brown.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Saturday June 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service at 12 Noon at the Church of the Nazarene, 14907 Kneisel Rd., Vermilion, OH 44089.
