Walter "Joe" McManus, 93 of Lorain, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born December 29, 1913 in Cambridge, OH and had live in Lorain County most of his life. He had worked at Cambridge Glass Co., Cambridge, OH, Patterson Field, Dayton, and most recently he had worked as a Tool Grinder for Moen Inc., Elyria and retired in after 32 years of service. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain. He was an active member of the Elyria Elks Lodge #465 and was Elk of the year in 1987. The Elks hold an annual golf outing in his name each September. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball and football. He especially enjoyed bowling and golfing and had a hole in one at Forrest Hills Golf Course. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (nee Bliss) McManus; step-daughters: Patricia Minnich of Avon, Marilyn Wert of Valparaiso, IN, and Kelly Cataldo of Lorain; step-sons, Edward Mantin of Lorain, and Lawrence Mantin of Richmond, TX; brothers: Jack McManus of Cambridge, OH, and Rodger McManus of Cambridge; sisters, Betty Cooper of Zanesville, and Mary Alice Lerner of Cambridge; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter M. and Margaret (neeSuttleworth) McManus, and brothers: Huey and Robert McManus. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street Lorain, OH 44052, Wednesday, August 29, 2007 with the Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Contributions may be made to the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
