Wanda Rowan

December 15, 1949 — October 17, 2024

Wanda L. Rowan (nee Teter), 74, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at her home, after a lengthy illness.

Wanda was born on December 15, 1949, in Weston, West Virginia, and grew up surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of her hometown. She moved to Vermilion 40 years ago and called it home ever since.

In her early career, Wanda worked as a nurse's aide, where she was known for her compassion and dedication to caring for others. She eventually chose to devote herself to her family, where she found great joy in raising her children and being a devoted wife. Wanda’s love for nature shone through her passion for gardening, especially cultivating vibrant flowers that brought life and color to her yard. She was also an avid walker, enjoying long strolls through her neighborhood, and had a fondness for fishing, finding tranquility in the quiet moments by the water.

Wanda's gentle spirit, nurturing nature, and ability to find beauty in life’s simple pleasures left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her family and friends will remember her for the warmth she brought to their lives and the resilience she showed throughout her journey.

She is survived by her loving daughter, April Sklarek and her partner Landon Walker of Vermilion; her cherished granddaughter, Amanda Sklarek, and her brother, Raymond Teter and his wife Brenda, who shared many fond memories from their West Virginia roots.

Wanda was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Cary Rowan, and her dear son, Travis C. Rowan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Ona (nee Dean) Teter; her brother, Emanuel; and her sisters, Deloris, Bonnie, Harriett, and Arletia, who all held a special place in her heart.

A private inurnment will take place at Highwood Cemetery in Heaters, West Virginia, where Wanda will be laid to rest alongside her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959
