William Urban Burt, 84, of Vermilion, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Community Health Partners, Lorain after a lengthy illness.. He was born May 4, 1926 in Toledo, and had lived in Vermilion 54 years. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Pacific as a sonar man. He was the Band Director for Vermilion Schools for 30 years. Mr. Burt was a graduated of Bowling Green State University and had a masters degree from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago. He was a former member of Vermilion Rotary and was the leader of the Vermilionairs Men's Chorus. He was always in a band playing trumpet or harmonica. His last band was with his son, Kris, and was called the River Rats. Survivors include sons, Kevin William Burt ( Diana) of Mount Vernon, and Kris Evans Burt (Juli) of Norwalk; grandchildren, Kasey, Kerriann, Kelly, Jenna, Ryan, Kristy and David Burt; and a great grandson, Maxell Burt. Preceding him in death were his parents, Urban and Margaret (nee George) Burt and a sister, Betty Lou Davis. A memorial service and time of celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Mill Hollow Park at 4 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion.
