William Eichelberger

William Eichelberger, 94, of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the Cleveland Clinic in Avon following a brief illness.

He was born January 14, 1932 in Robertsdale, Pennsylvania, and had made Vermilion his home for the past 63 years after moving from South Amherst.

William graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1949, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began his career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol administering driver’s license examinations before joining Ford Motor Company in Lorain, where he worked as a plant security guard for 25 years until his retirement in 1991.

A devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, William was also a life member of AMVETS Post #22. He enjoyed working on cars and treasured the time he spent with his family. William was especially proud of his grandchildren and rarely missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events, school activities, and special occasions.

He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Marcia) Eichelberger of Vermilion and Bill Eichelberger of Richfield; daughters, Lisa (Ron) Solomon of Lorain and Mary (the late, Larry) Pisano of Huron; grandchildren, Mary (Heath), Matt, Joshua (Angela), Christopher, Tony (Shannon), Graham (Tyler), and Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Paige, Noah, Caden, Jacob, Hannah, Isabella, and Genevieve; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Joyce Eichelberger in 2011; his parents, Stewart and Emma (nee Brenna) Eichelberger; grandchildren, Sharon Eichelberger, Julie Willgrube and Colleen Eichelberger, and unborn great-grandson John; brothers, Ralph (Irene) Eichelberger and Robert (Katherine) Eichelberger; and sisters, Louise (Thomas) Williams; Edith (Joseph Villa) Mort and Vera (John) Kurucz.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 29, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Military Honors will be conducted at 4:00 p.m.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Inurnment will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park at a later date.
