William Edward Hendricks Dvm

Dr. William Edward Hendricks, DVM, 82, of Vermilion, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness.

Born on March 20, 1943, in Coshocton, Ohio, Bill moved to Vermilion from Chicago 56 years ago and proudly made it his home ever since.

Bill graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 1967, following graduation he joined the  U.S. Army, where he honorably served during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he founded Harbourtown Animal Clinic in Vermilion, where he devoted his career to caring for animals and serving the community until his retirement in 2009.

Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, AMVETS Post #22, and an active member of the Vermilion Lions Club for 48 years.  He had a deep love for the outdoors-especially fishing and boating-and a lifelong passion for baseball. He founded the Vermilion Hot Stove League and served as head coach of the Vermilion High School Varsity Baseball team from 1993 to 1999, mentoring many young athletes along the way.  He also started the initiative for the new varsity High School baseball field.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gloria Gayle (née Armbrust) Hendricks; his sons, Paul Hendricks of Vermilion, Greg Hendricks of Vermilion, and Matthew (Amy) Hendricks of Maui, HI; grandchildren, Corbin, Maven, and Zephyr Hendricks; great-grandchildren, Liem, Elliot, Hattie, and Norah; and his brother, Paul Michael (Kathy) Hendricks of Coshocton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Betty (née Carpenter) Hendricks, and his sister, Carol Ashcraft.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Guy Schuler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Vermilion, with military honors.
