William "Butch" Arthur Szabo, 81, of Wakeman, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born January 7, 1938 in Lorain and had been a Wakeman resident for the past 46 years moving from Sheffield Lake. Butch had taught at EHOVE Career Center for 10 years and worked for Erie Electronics in Vermilion as an appliance repairman for 25 years. He continued to work independently doing appliance repair after his retirement from Erie Electronics. He was a past member of the Firelands Lions Club and enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, shooting, going to the casinos with his wife, and spending time with his dogs. He was especially proud of his Hungarian background and enjoyed cooking Hungarian food. He also enjoyed doing volunteer work for various churches in the area. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy (nee Thurman) Szabo; sons, Bill Szabo of Wakeman and Mike (Laurie) Szabo of Attica; daughter, Debbie Weglicki of Wakeman; grandchildren, Brittney Maynard, Christopher Farley, and Billy, Emily, Brecka, Brooke, and Michael Szabo; and great grandchildren, Blake Farley and Cole Maynard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bella and Mary (neePondage) Szabo. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Pastor Chuck Livermore will officiate. Interment will follow at Florence Twp. Cemetery.
