William "Bill" Ashley Wood, 72 of Vermilion, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in Community Health Partners, Lorain after a lengthy illness. He was born March 20, 1936 in Ansted, WV and has been a Vermilion resident since 1968 moving from WV. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He worked as a repairman for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 10 years retiring in 1977. He was also a member of the Vermilion on the Lake Fire Department Station #2 for 33 years. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Vermilion. He had been a member of the Vermilion Amvets Post 22, VFW Post 7576, and American Legion Post 397. He had also been a member of the Moose Club, WV and the Social Club with the Vermilion Fire Dept. Bill enjoyed reading, working on cars, watching western films, the outdoors, visiting Amish country, socializing , and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Anna Wood (nee Taylor); sons, David Wood of Vermilion and William, Jr. and Mindy Wood of Vermilion; daughter, Brenda Wood of Vermilion, 12 grandchildren; sister, Wilma Moore of Hill Top, WV and Dolores Sharpe of Oak Hill, WV. Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl Livingston and Madeline (nee Pike) Wood ,2 infant brothers and a brother, Carl Woods, Jr. and one infant sister and a sister Alta Gibson. Friends may call Monday from 12 Noon until the time of funeral services at 2 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Reverend Guy Morton will officiate. Interment will follow in Rugby Cemetery.
